A two-post car lift is the fastest way to get a vehicle in the air and open up the undercarriage for real work. Whether you're outfitting a home garage or a full production shop, a 2-post lift gives you clear access to brakes, exhaust, suspension, and drivetrain without the bulk of a four-post. Our two-post car lifts range from 8,000 to 15,000 lbs of lifting capacity to handle everything from daily drivers to heavy-duty trucks.
Baseplate vs. Clearfloor Two-Post Lifts
Baseplate lifts route the equalization cables and hydraulic lines through a plate at the floor, keeping overhead height low — ideal for garages with lower ceilings. Clearfloor (overhead) lifts move everything up top, leaving the floor completely open for rolling jacks, transmissions, and creepers. If your ceiling height allows it, clearfloor is the shop favorite for unobstructed movement.
Symmetric vs. Asymmetric Arms
Asymmetric lifts rotate the posts and use staggered arm lengths so the door clears the column — the go-to for easy entry and exit. Symmetric lifts center the vehicle for balanced loading on trucks and vans. Many modern two-post lifts are versa-symmetric, giving you both in one machine.
What to Look For in a 2-Post Lift
- Lifting capacity: Match the rating to your heaviest vehicle with margin to spare — 10,000 lbs covers most trucks.
- Lifting height: A taller rise lets you stand fully upright underneath.
- Ceiling clearance: Measure before you buy; overhead lifts need extra headroom.
- Locks and safety: Dual-point mechanical locks and padded arm stops protect the vehicle and the tech.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much ceiling height do I need for a 2-post lift?
Most two-post lifts need about 11 to 12 feet of clearance for full rise. Low-ceiling garages should look at baseplate models and check the lift's listed height plus the roof height of your tallest vehicle.
What capacity 2-post lift do I need?
For cars and half-ton trucks, 9,000 to 10,000 lbs is plenty. Step up to 12,000 to 15,000 lbs for heavy-duty trucks and vans, and always leave a margin above your heaviest vehicle.
Do two-post lifts need a concrete anchor?
Yes. They bolt into a cured concrete slab — typically at least 4 inches thick at 3,000 PSI. Confirm your floor meets the manufacturer's spec before installation.
